Speaking of FRP storage tanks, I believe everyone is familiar with them. So, what are the reasons for the damage of FRP tanks? What is the production method of FRP tanks? How much do you know, let the editor briefly tell you about it, let’s take a look together.
What are the reasons for the damage of glass fiber reinforced plastic storage tanks
1、Beware of overpressure in FRP tanks; the typical form of circumferential stress failure is longitudinal cracking in pipelines and vertical cracking in vertical storage tanks.
2、Cracks and leaks in plastic laminates are due to exceeding design conditions such as overpressure, exceeding vacuum limits, vibrations, especially from steam injection heaters.
3、Chemical attack of laminates can take many forms such as solvent action and dehydration, among others.
4、Damage to the nozzles may be due to incorrect design or improper support; do not be careless with the nozzles of FRP tanks, and even if they are only used for heavy loads, also specify and use short nozzles with a pressure of at least 100 psi.
5、All glass fiber reinforced plastic tanks and containers should be checked for cracks after shipment. If the tank body is not properly supported, it may happen; due to unsuitable handling methods, there have been accidents of large cracks between the tank body and the can.
6、To prevent severe exothermic reactions within the tank, which can cause severe damage to FRP tanks, many systems producing such reactions are designed with tilting or cooling devices to resist the large exotherm.
What is the production method of FRP tanks
Basically divided into two categories, namely wet contact type and dry pressure molding. For example, according to the characteristics of the process, there are hand lay-up molding, lamination molding, RTM method, extrusion method, compression molding, winding molding, etc. Hand lay-up includes hand lay-up, bag press, spraying, wet paste low pressure and no-mold hand lay-up.
At present, there are the following four molding methods that are most used in the world.
① Hand paste method: The main countries used are Norway, Japan, the United Kingdom, Denmark and so on.
② Spray method: The main countries used are Sweden, the United States, Norway, etc.
③ Molding method: the main countries used are Germany, etc.。
④ FTM method: The main countries used are Europe, America and Japan.
More than 90% of FRP products in my country are produced by mechanical winding, and others include molding method, winding method, lamination method, etc. (see Chapter 11). Japan's hand paste method still accounts for 50%. From the point of view of countries in the world, the hand paste method still accounts for a considerable proportion, indicating that it still has vitality. The characteristic of the hand lay-up method is that it is formed by wet resin, the equipment is simple, the cost is low, and the overall product of more than 10m can be pasted at one time. The disadvantage is that the degree of mechanization is low, the production cycle is long, and the quality is unstable. Since my country has introduced process equipment such as extrusion, spraying, and winding from abroad, with the development of the FRP industry, new process methods will continue to emerge.
Seeing this, I believe everyone has a certain understanding of the production method of FRP storage tanks. Thank you for your reading and support. If you want to know more about other aspects, you can follow us.
